NARS Speaker Receives Dutch Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Serbia Laurent L.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Serbia Laurent L. Stokvis.

Ambassador Stokvis said that during the Dutch parliamentary delegation’s upcoming visit to Serbia on 9 May the delegation members wish to meet with the NARS Speaker as this would be an opportunity to deepen the bilateral cooperation between the two parliaments. “9 March is Europe Day, another symbolic confirmation of our determination to meet all the requisites, become candidates and commence negotiations on EU accession”, said Djukic-Dejanovic.

The officials declared that full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal would be of extreme importance in the consideration of Serbia’s European Union candidacy and that the two countries are in agreement on the matter. “I am sure that the Government, the parliamentary majority and Serbian citizens desire the full cooperation more than those who do not live in Serbia”, stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. “I sincerely believe that in his next report Mr. Brammertz will confirm the existence of full cooperation”, added Djukic-Dejanovic.

Regarding the National Assembly’s obligations relating to the adoption of the amendments to the Law on the Election of Deputies and other laws from the so-called European agenda, Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic expressed expectation that they would enter regular assembly procedure by 15 May. Ambassador Stokvis agreed with his host that the quality of the laws is more important than the dynamics of their adoption, as is raising the citizens’ awareness and enthusiasm that these laws contribute to a higher quality of living. The NARS Speaker stressed that she would definitely discuss the ratification of the SAA, which is very important for Serbia, with the Dutch parliamentarians during their visit on 9 May.
