The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the German Bundestag, headed by Bundestag deputy Dr.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the German Bundestag, headed by Bundestag deputy Dr. Christel Happach-Kasan.

The reason for their visit to Serbia is the continuation of the German Bundestag’s scholarship programme for highly qualified and interested chosen young people for a five-month stay in Berlin where they shall learn about the German parliamentary system and gain practical experiences in the field of parliamentary work. The NARS Speaker emphasised her great pleasure at the realisation of the project and the fact that five students would have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in Berlin. The Bundestag deputy and member of the Friendship Group with Serbia, expressed hope that the project would further the friendship between Serbia and Germany.

Including today’s meeting, 14 reciprocal visits between the Serbian and German parliaments have been realised in the current convocation. Djukic-Dejanovic and Happach-Kasan agreed that the increasingly frequent meetings between parliamentarians, both at the level of foreign affairs and European integration committees, and level of friendship groups and working groups were a step forward in improving parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The NARS Speaker told the German Bundestag deputy that more extensive investments by German companies would be welcome in Serbia and that the Assembly had passed a series of legal documents creating legal security for all potential investors. Djukic-Dejanovic repeated her invitation to the German Bundestag President Mr. Lammert to visit Serbia.

The meeting was attended by Dr Gabriele Wendorf from the Technical University of Berlin, Dr Helmut Winkelmann, Head of the Bundestag Parliamentary Services Department, as well as representatives of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia.
