On Monday, 8 November 2010, the parliamentary Collegium held its fifth extraordinary meeting at the National Assembly House, to discuss the consequences of the earthquake that struck the town of Kraljevo and its surroundings on 3. November 2010, as well as the ways to engage the National Assembly in assisting the endangered townspeople.

On the occasion, it was decided that each National Assembly deputy contribute 5000RSD to be paid into an account set up to raise assistance funds for Kraljevo. As a sign of solidarity with those affected by the disaster, the National Assembly will also urge its support service employees to contribute to the fund raising programme, according to their means.

The Collegium also invited the Government and other state authorities to follow the National Assembly’s example and implement action “One day for the earthquake victims” by contributing a day’s wages or the amount the employees are ready to contribute, for those who right now need assistance the most.

The Collegium also addressed the specific problems the endangered population is facing right now and concluded that coordination among all the organisations and institutions involved in the action is essential. To this end, it was proposed to set up an intersector body tasked with harmonising the work and activities of all those engaged in containing the consequences of the great disaster.
