Head of the DPS Deputy Group at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Milos Aligrudic received today at the National Assembly House Peter Sorensen, personal envoy of the European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Javier Solana.
Aligrudic briefed Sorensen on the political situation in Serbia and the reasons why the Democratic Party of Serbia is calling for extraordinary parliamentary elections. He stated that preserving Kosovo-Metohija within Serbia is the most important foreign policy goal and interest for DPS and that before the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Serbia and the European Union had been ratified it should have been clarified whether it pertained to the whole state, including Kosovo-Metohija or not. DPS is a pro-European party and favours Serbia’s accession to the EU, but believes that preservation of territorial integrity is the most important state and national issue, Aligrudic stressed.
He said that Serbia accepted the deployment of EULEX forces in Kosovo-Metohija, but that they are now basically implementing Ahtisaari’s plan and have almost no connection with the UN which had passed Resolution 1244. He also deemed that instead of appealing to the International Court of Justice for a ruling on the unilateral declaration of Kosovo-Metohija independence, which is not binding, Serbia should have sued each individual country which had recognized the independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
