Memorandum of Cooperation Signed between NARS and Westminster Foundation for Democracy

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic and Chief Executive Officer of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy Linda Duffield signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Assembly and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy at the National Assembly House today.

Djukic Dejanovic said that in the current mandate and especially in the last few months the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia had made some big steps toward improving its work in all spheres. “We passed and then improved the Rules of Procedure, intensified the work of the committees through the practice of public hearings, we have a new website which is already launched and are moving toward the introduction of E-Parliament … which are just some of the results we have achieved by our own efforts and the help of our partners”, said the NARS Speaker.

“We have great expectations from project “Strengthening the NARS legislative and control capacities”. A series of seminars, workshops, cooperation with the MPs of the UK Parliament’s House of Commons will undoubtedly help strengthen the National Assembly’s capacities. The goal is to become stronger as an important lever in the system of control over the government by employing education to help the Service achieve its mission of providing support to the MPs in performing their basic function more effectively. Therefore, if there is an activity truly significant for the NA in the long term then it is surely the one that will be realised through this project”, stressed Djukic Dejanovic.

The project of “Strengthening the legislative and control capacities of the National Assembly” will be realised over the next nine months via a series of seminars, workshops and training courses for the MPs and employees at the National Assembly Service. The project aims to implement the experiences of the UK Parliament and the parliaments of EU member states in the sphere of their legislative and control functions and the role of the Support Service in providing support to the MPs in the discharge of their duty.
