Greeting the Ambassador, the Head of the PFG with Belgium Milan Stevanovic said that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Belgium are very important for the development of Serbia’s status in Europe. Stevanovic said that Serbia and Belgium share a common history since they both stand at a European crossroads. He also opined that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Belgium are on the rise, adding that Serbia would continue to work toward their further development and stressing the importance of boosting economic cooperation. Stevanovic thanked the Ambassador for Belgium’s support of Serbia’s Euro-integration process.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium said that Belgium urges the European Union to include the Western Balkan countries as soon as possible, among which, he added, Serbia has an important place. The Ambassador commended the legislative activity of the National Assembly which had recently passed a great many laws, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, aimed at political and economic reform. Speaking of cooperation between the two countries, H.E. Leo D'aes said he was sure Belgian investors wanted to cooperate with Serbia, underlining the importance of interparliamentary cooperation for the improvement of overall relations.
The officials also discussed cooperation in the field of energy, and the Ambassador said that Belgian companies are particularly interested in renewable energy sources in Serbia.
The meeting was also attended by Velinka Tosic, Ljiljana Beronja, Nebojsa Tatomir, Nenad Mitrovic, Milan Petric, Dr Aleksandar Peranovic and Vlado Babic, members of the PFG with Belgium.
