Members of PFG with Tunisia Meet with Newly-Appointed Tunisian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head and members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Tunisia met today, 12 November, at the National Assembly House, with the newly-appointed Tunisian Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Mohamed Bougamra.

Opening the meeting, the Head of the PFG with Tunisia Biljana Hasanovic Korac said she and the PFG members were honoured to be meeting the newly-appointed Ambassador. “This parliamentary friendship group is committed to showing its friendship to Tunisia and everyone representing Tunisia in our country is welcome”, said the MP.

On the occasion Hasanovic Korac spoke about the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Tunisia, opining that there is ample room to improve economic cooperation.

She also thanked Ambassador Bougamra on Tunisia’s principled stance on the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija and the fact that the country did not endorse Pristina’s bid to join UNSECO at the organisation’s General Conference.

Tunisian Ambassador Bougamra introduced himself and said he was pleased to be closely cooperating with the Serbian parliamentarians because, he opined, Tunisia and Serbia share a long history of cooperation which is an example of good, friendly relations.

The Ambassador stressed that Tunisia is a country of tolerance and transparency, its government is dedicated to strengthening the democratic process through dialogue and consensus, and has since the Revolution achieved progress in the democratic and political transition.

He also hopes that the excellent political relations would in the future be accompanied by economic cooperation.

“Bilateral relations between Tunisia and Serbia are at a high level and I believe there is potential to improve cooperation across the board because it is in our mutual interest”, opined Ambassador Bougamra, hoping that Serbia’s EU accession talks would follow and upward trend and that Serbia would soon become an EU member.

Besides the Head of the PFG with Tunisia Biljana Hasanovic Korac, the meeting was also attended by PFG members Dr Biljana Beronja, Bratimir Vasiljevic, Dr Gordana Zoric, Dragomir Karic, Milosav Milojevic and Aida Corovic.
