Members of PFG with Slovakia Meet With Slovak Parliamentary Delegation

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Slovakia met today, at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Slovak Parliament’s friendship group with the Western Balkan countries, in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

The officials opined that the relations between Serbia and Slovakia are friendly, with no outstanding issues. They urged for an improvement of bilateral and parliamentary cooperation especially in view of Slovakia’s upcoming presidency of the European Union and the support Slovakia can offer Serbia on its path to the European Union.

The Head of the PFG with Slovakia Aleksandra Maletic thanked Slovakia for its principled position and non-recognition of the self-proclaimed independence of Kosovo, as well as the support in the implementation of the Brussels Agreement, especially concerning the establishment of the community of Serb municipalities. She also added that Slovakia’s support is invaluable both for Serbia’s progress toward the European Union and the regional cooperation in the Balkans, as well as for the reform processes conducted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the National Assembly.

Slovak Parliament Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the PFG with the Western Balkan countries Jana Lassakova said that Slovakia supports Serbia’s progress to the European Union and would not be changing its position on the Kosovo issue. She added that Slovakia strongly supports the reform processes in Serbia and thanked the country for its treatment of the Slovak national minority and the opportunity for Slovak children to receive education in their mother tongue. She urged for an overall intensification of relations and invited the PFG members to visit Slovakia.

The members of the two delegations also discussed the improvement of parliamentary and trade cooperation, the status of national minorities and security issues in light of the recent events in Macedonia.

In addition to the Head of the PFG with Slovakia Aleksandra Maletic, the PFG delegation also comprised Ljibuska Lakatos, Gordana Zoric, Milorad Cvetanovic, Elvira Kovacs, Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Enis Imamovic, Sulejman Ugljanin, Gordana Comic and Dragan Aleksic, while the delegation of the Slovak Parliament’s friendship group with the Western Balkan countries, in addition to Jana Lassakova, also comprised Viera Sedivcova and Peter Muransky.
