Meeting of Serbian and Romanian Parliamentary Delegations
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Romania, Foreign Affairs Committee Deputy Chairperson Dr Dijana Vukomanovic, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic and the Head of the Serbian Progressive Party Parliamentary Group Zoran Babic had several bilateral meetings today with a delegation of the Romanian Parliament and Senate headed by the President of the Foreign Policy Commission Petru Filip and President of the Friendship Group Romania-Serbia Ben Oni Ardelean.
Speaking of Serbia’s upcoming chairmanship of the OSCE, Dr Vukomanovic underlined the organisation’s global influence especially in the context of urging for a peaceful solution of the Ukrainian crisis. She underlined the importance of frequent international meetings and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic’s high-level talks with foreign partners.
The President of the Romanian Parliament’s Foreign Policy Commission, Petru Filip said that Serbia has Romania’s unconditional support on the road to the European Union. He agreed with Dr Vukomanovic that interparliamentary cooperation, especially at the level of foreign affairs committees, is very important and can provide support for different projects. Filip reaffirmed Romania’s stance that it did not support self-determination on ethnic grounds.
The officials also discussed the visit of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee to Romania, planned for February 2015.
The officials emphasised the significance of regular meetings between parliamentary delegations to discuss issues of common interest for Serbia and Romania and opportunities for concrete cooperation in the fields of economy, energy and culture.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker said that Romania’s European integration experience is very important and useful for Serbia.
