Meeting of Green Parliamentary Group

The informal Green Parliamentary Group had a meeting, at the National Assembly, with the representatives of international organisations and institutions active in the protection and improvement of the environment.

The members of the Green Parliamentary Group and the representatives of the international organisations were addressed by Milos Djajic of the Centre of Modern Skills and Valentina Djureta of representatives of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence. They reminded that the Green Parliamentary Group, comprised of 30 MPs from different political parties, was set up in 2009 within the common initiative to establish green parliamentary groups in the parliaments of South East Europe.

The coordinators of the Green Parliamentary Group, MPs Dejan Radenkovic, Nada Lazic and Mirjana Djokovic, briefed the representatives of the international organisations on the informal parliamentary group’s key spheres of interest – water and communal waste management and forestation.

The Group coordinators said that the goal is to sensitise the MPs on environmental issues so that they could, within their scope of duties and mechanisms available, contribute to a speedy resolution of the burning issues in the sphere.

The participants of the meeting suggested that the Green Parliamentary Group should establish closer cooperation with local authorities and foster ties between the relevant social factors in the area of environmental protection.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, US Embassy, EU Delegation to Serbia, GIZ-IMPACT and UNDP.
