Meeting Held on Improvement of Minority Rights in Serbia

The Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Aleksandar Markovic, met with the Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Berisha.

The meeting was also attended by Committee Deputy Chairman Boris Bajic, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the Provincial Secretary for Education, Regulations, Administration and National Minorities - National Communities Robert Otot.

The officials discussed current challenges in the field of protection and promotion of human and minority rights, as well as the importance of gender equality in social and political life. They exchanged views on improving the legislative framework and practice, with special emphasis on the upcoming amendments to the Law on National Councils of National Minorities.

They also emphasised the need to strengthen institutional cooperation between the National Assembly and the Ministry, because, as they agreed, continuous cooperation and exchange of information is crucial for Serbia's further progress in the field of human rights protection and the development of a democratic culture of dialogue.
