First off, the Chairman stressed that the European Integration Committee plays an integral role in Serbia’s Euro-integration process and fully contributes to the process in line with its duties. Canak added that there is a broad consensus among the Committee members about Serbia’s European perspective and a high degree of cooperation, their political affiliation notwithstanding, and that the Committee supports the Government’s efforts to meet all the EU accession criteria.

The Committee members informed McAllister on the results the Committee had achieved so far, stressing that a positive impulse from the European Union such as opening new negotiation chapters, and closing the ones already opened, would be invaluable for Serbia.

The Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and EP Rapporteur for Serbia David McAllister said that Serbia has achieved remarkable results in the last years as regards adopting European values, but that there is still more to do. McAllister added that the Report he had drafted and the European Parliament adopted in the previous period, had garnered broad support from all the political groups which is a positive impulse for Serbia to continue what it was doing and was optimistic about the opening of several more negotiation chapters by the end of the year.
