The substance of the programme is aimed at providing an in-depth vision into the role of the NATO PA, NATO structure and policies, including the current political and security issues (NATO partnerships, military operations, emergency situation planning, crisis management and similar). In the course of the visit to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, the parliamentarians will be briefed on the operations of the allied forces and the process of crisis and operation management.

During the programme, the parliamentarians will meet with some of the highest civil and military officials of the Alliance and representatives of NATO PA, including NATO PA Secretary General David Hobbs, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Thrasyvoulos Stamatopoulos, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges Ambassador Sorin Dukaru and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment Patrick Auroy. Also, the challenges and the role of NATO from the perspective of the allies and partners will be discussed by the ambassadors and standing representatives of Germany and Greece to NATO, as well as the Head of Serbia’s Mission to NATO, H.E. Miomir Udovicki.

Besides the representatives of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the NATO PA, the NATO Orientation Programme will also be attended by parliamentarians from Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Armenia, Latvia, Morocco, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine, Finland, Switzerland, delegations with the status of observer, as well as MEPs and representatives of the NATO PA International Secretariat.
