MP Cotric at Celebration of National Day of Serbs in North Macedonia

“Serbia and North Macedonia are two friendly neighbourly countries whose relations are following an upward trend. The intensive political contacts at the level of president, prime minister, ministers and parliament members contribute to this, as do the continuous advancements of trade, economic and cultural cooperation and the Serbian and Macedonian minorities in the two countries”, said MP Aleksandar Cotric in Tetovo on 9 February, addressing the participants of the celebration of the National Day of the Serbian community in the Republic of Macedonia.


At the gathering attended by more than 500 members of the Serbian community in Macedonia and their Macedonian friends, Cotric congratulated St. Sava Day and thanked the attending for preserving their identity, wishing that they be united in their cultural, artistic, educational, informative and spiritual efforts.
“The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region are united as regards the status of our people in the diaspora and the countries in the region and are actively working on protecting the rights and interests of our fellow-nationals abroad, advancing the relations between the mother country and the Serbs living in the eight countries in the region, including North Macedonia”, said Aleksandra Cotric.

He added that Serbia’s economy is developing nicely and its diplomatic and international status is following apace, the country is contributing to the peace and stability in the region which is a guarantee that it will be more assertive in its assistance to the Serbs living in the neighbourly countries to help them improve their education system, the work of arts and culture associations and the media.

In the course of his visit to Macedonia, MP Aleksandar Cotric spoke with Gordana Jovic Stojkovska, President of the Serb Community in Macedonia, Primislav Stanojevic, president of the Serb Community in Macedonia Tetovo Regional Board, and Momcilo Velic, president of Arts and Culture Association “St. Sava” from Tetovo, to discuss how the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region can help with publishing, celebrating important dates from Serbian history, cleaning up memorials and providing Serbian national costumes for the members of the Arts and Culture Association “St. Sava”.
