MEETING OF THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE AND SERBIA-INDONESIA PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP

The Delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, headed by the Committee Chairman, Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, talked today at the National Assembly House to the Serbia-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group delegation of the Republic of Indonesia House of Representatives.



The Delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, headed by the Committee Chairman, Dr Dragoljub Micunovic, talked today at the National Assembly House to the Serbia-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group delegation of the Republic of Indonesia House of Representatives.

It was their common opinion that the cooperation between Indonesia and Serbia represents a continuity of a long standing cooperation and friendly relations of the two nations and that the conditions are right for its intensification in the upcoming period.

The Friendship Group Coordinator, Widada Bujowiryono, briefed the Committee members on Indonesia’s position on Kosovo which clearly supports Serbia’s territorial integrity, advocating a peaceful solution to the Kosovo issue through the consistent application of international law.

The Committee Chairman stressed the importance of Indonesia’s support who, as a member of the UN Security Council, took a clear stand and expressed his hope that the two countries will persevere together in protecting international law and develop future relations in the best possible manner. Micunovic reminded all present that Serbia was among the first to offer help to Indonesia during the tsunami which is a testimony to firm friendly relations between the two countries.

It was also emphasised that Friendship Groups at both Parliaments may initiate further improvements of general cooperation and that parliamentary diplomacy may significantly contribute to the intensification of cooperation in may areas.
