Kovacs at PACE Equality and Non-Discrimination Committee Meeting

Elvira Kovacs, National Assembly Deputy Speaker and member of the National Assembly standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), is taking part in the meeting of the PACE Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination.

One of the topics of the meeting is violence against women and domestic violence. The Committee members will discuss the importance of researching and gathering information on these forms of violence.

In 2008, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called for the adoption of legally binding European standards on violence against women and was involved in the talks on the adoption of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). Article 11 of the Convention stipulates that the signatory Parties shall undertake to collect relevant statistical data on all forms of violence covered by the scope of the Convention.

The National Assembly ratified the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence in October 2013.
