The young activists of the organisation presented project “Civil society’s regional action to raise awareness and tolerance” to the Committee, realised by the youth and local self-governments of Prijepolje, Bujanovac and Subotica. One of the project goals is a more efficient participation of civil society in the decision-making process and strengthening the capacities of local self-governments with a focus on stimulating and creating the conditions for an increased participation of ethnic and other minority groups in the decision-making processes on the local, regional and national level.

The Committee Chairman briefed the Fractal activists on the competences of the Inter-Ethnic Committee and legal regulations pertaining to the protection of the rights and liberties of ethnic minorities in Serbia. Particular focus was drawn to the provisions of the Law on National Minority Councils, as well as the potentials for cooperation between the Committee and the national councils and local authorities on resolving specific issues relating to the exercise of ethnic minority rights in the spheres of culture, education, information and official use of language in local communities and joint contribution to a better functioning of the local self-government bodies in mixed communities.
