IPU “Quintet” to Meet on International Day of Parliamentarism

Today, for the second time in the history of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the oldest and biggest international parliamentary organization, the IPU is to have a virtual meeting in the format of a “quintet”. The “Quintet” is comprised of IPU leadership, heads of parliament who had chaired the IPU and the host of the organization’s upcoming assembly. IPU Executive Committee member Mladen Grujic will be taking part on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the IPU and the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.


In the course of the meeting the participants will talk about the results of the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade and the adopted Belgrade Declaration and the resolution “Achieving universal health coverage by 2030: The role of parliaments in ensuring the right to health”. The participants will also discuss the relevance of the IPU and parliamentary diplomacy, i.e. the challenges the member states are faced with in the pandemic. The meeting will be an opportunity to mark the International Day of Parliamentarism and the official end of the 130th anniversary of the IPU.

The meeting will be attended by the Speaker of Parliament of Qatar Ahmad Bin Abdulla Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Speaker of Parliament of Rwanda Donatille Mukabalisa, IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron and Secretary General Martin Chungong, as well as the heads of all the geopolitical groups and members of the IPU Executive Committee.
