Helping Build Up the Country in Modern Times

“Following the example of youth work actions, new generations of young people should find room to become further engaged and help build up the state in modern times”, said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic at the Assembly of the Association of participants of youth work actions and volunteers of Serbia.

“New times bring new opportunities, full of challenges, but also call for new enthusiasts. I am sure that contemporary enthusiasm will recognise the youth work action model and that the youth will find a way to realise its energy in line with Serbia’s needs", said the National Assembly Speaker addressing the participants of the Assembly held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the initiation of youth work actions and 1 April – Youth Work Action Day.

Reminiscing about youth work actions, a tradition born in the People’s Liberation Struggle, aimed at restoring and rebuilding the war-torn economy, infrastructure, scientific, educational, sporting and other facilities, Djukic Dejanovic stressed this would be the quickest and best way to build up the country and raise it to its feet. “Work carried with it great enthusiasm, brought the urban and rural, intellectual and labour youth together, all the nations and religions were on the same page”, said the National Assembly Speaker.

As part of the Assembly of the Association of participants of youth work actions and volunteers of Serbia, held under the auspices of the National Assembly Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, the Historical Archives of Belgrade prepared an exhibition on Youth Work Actions 1941-1990.
