Head of Standing Delegation to PACE Responds to Statement by PACE Monitoring Committee Co-Rapporteurs

The Head of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, sent a response to the statement of PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs Axel Schäfer and Victoria Tiblom regarding the alleged use of LRAD or other coercive measures at the protest on 15 March.

The response states:

"The statement by the rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe does not contribute to a constructive dialogue and does not reflect an objective and balanced assessment of the situation in Serbia. Serbia firmly denies the allegations of the use of illegal weapons, including the so-called "sonic cannons", and has acted in accordance with current legislation and the rule of law.

Claims of the alleged use of LRAD or other coercive measures are completely false and risk misleading the public. Serbian institutions remain committed to preserving public safety, respecting fundamental rights, and transparent cooperation with international partners. Any assessment of recent events should be based on verified facts.

Serbia renounces all attempts to spread misinformation that not only threaten its reputation, but also create unnecessary tensions in the public. Our country remains open to cooperation and ready to transparently present all relevant facts in order to prevent the spread of unfounded accusations and manipulations.

We expect all relevant actors to approach this topic responsibly, without politicization and sensationalism, and that any and all analyses be based on facts, not unverified allegations. Serbia will continue to defend democratic values, the rule of law and stability, and will not allow unfounded accusations to jeopardize its international position and efforts towards constructive dialogue."
