Head of Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq Meets with Iraqi Charge d'Affaires in Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq Samira Cosovic met today at the National Assembly House, with the Charge d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in the Republic of Serbia Haider Rashid Swadi to discuss the traditionally good relations, strengthening and advancing overall cooperation between the two countries.

Samira Cosovic said that the relations between Serbia and Iraq are characterised by a tradition of friendship, understanding and mutual support, adding that there is room to improve relations in a number of areas and further develop bilateral cooperation.

The Charge d'Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in the Republic of Serbia Haider Rashid Swadi said that he was pleased with the visit, highlighting the historical and traditional friendship between the two peoples.

He informed Ms. Cosovic that a Iraqi delegation would visit Serbia at the beginning of June and there would be a meeting of representatives of the two countries’ ministries of foreign affairs within the talks and political consultations. He also expressed the desire to organise a meeting in the National Assembly with the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq.

The Charge d'Affaires briefed the PFG Head on the situation in Iraq as regards the COVID-19 pandemic, hoping that Serbia, Iraq and the whole world would handle the current difficulties and return to normal social and economic trends.

The Head of the PFG with Iraq underlined the Serbian leadership’s excellent handling of the pandemic and successful immunisation programme.

She stressed how pleased she was with the announced visit of the Iraqi delegation to Serbia, adding her readiness to organise a meeting with the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Iraq.

At the end of the meeting, the officials congratulated Eid al-Fitr to each other.
