Oleksandr Aleksandrovych was interested in intensifying parliamentary cooperation through mutual visits and meetings, both of the members of the two parliaments’ friendship groups and the members of the foreign affairs and the European integration committees.
He opined that there is room to improve economic cooperation, stressing that a free trade agreement between Serbia and Ukraine was being prepared, which, he hoped would be signed soon. He also pointed out the mutual support within international organisations, stressing that Ukraine supports Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and considers Kosovo-Metohija an integral part of Serbia.
The Ukrainian Ambassador was interested in the waste remediation of Lake Potpec, turned into a water dump by snowmelts, rains and the clogging of river Lim. Srbljanovic informed the Ambassador that, thanks to the Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic and the leadership of Serbia, the lake has been cleaned and rehabilitated. As he said, Lim is an international river that flows through Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and all these countries are implementing prevention measures to make sure this does not happen again.
PFG Head Stefan Srbljanovic agreed with the Ambassador's position that there is room to improve cooperation in all areas, especially in the field of economy, given the two countries’ potentials and interests. He mentioned the common historical facts two nations share, adding that a memorial bust of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko was unveiled in Novi Sad.
He also thanked the Ukrainian administration for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, as well as for Ukraine's non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
The officials opined that both countries’ foreign policy goals are, primarily, preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity and achievement of full EU membership in the near future.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the PFG with Ukraine and the Ukrainian Ambassador agreed that they would advocate the implementation of the free trade agreement between the two countries, which is being negotiated, and that the National Assembly would soon ratify the visa-free regime agreement for up to 90-day stays of citizens of both countries.
