Head of PFG with Indonesia Meets with Newly-Appointed Serbian Ambassador

At the very beginning of the meeting, the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Southeast Asia (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) Miroslav Petrasinovic pointed out that the two countries have had a long tradition of friendly relations dating back to the Non-Aligned Movement.

He said that the relations between the two countries are excellent and with no outstanding issues, as evidenced by the numerous visits and contacts, which resulted in the signing of a joint statement on the improvement of relations and cooperation between the two countries in April 2016.

Petrasinovic stressed he was very pleased with Serbia’s more than 70 years of good bilateral relations with the fourth most populous country in the world, recalling that Yugoslavia was among the first countries to support Indonesia’s struggle for independence which it gained on 17 August 1945. He expressed his belief that successful interparliamentary cooperation will continue, especially in view of the importance of mutual support in international parliamentary organisations and forums.

He also pointed to the positive fact that Indonesia is the only country that has an interfaith dialogue with Serbia. According to him, the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries is dynamic and continuous, and represents an important segment of overall bilateral relations.

He informed the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Ivana Golubovic Duboka that the PFG with Indonesia has 39 members.

He pointed out that Indonesia supported Serbia's accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), at its 43rd Summit last year.

The PFG Head also pointed out that Indonesia is consistent in its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and had voted against the entry of the so-called state of Kosovo into UNESCO.

He spoke of the possibility of improving cooperation in the fields of culture, education, tourism, science and technology and pointed to the cooperation within the "World in Serbia" student exchange project.

They jointly assessed that there is room to improve cooperation in the military field, as well as in the field of science, culture, tourism and agriculture, as well as for Indonesia's cooperation with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Ambassador Ivana Golubovic Duboka emphasised that her most important priority is to make sure the Republic of Indonesia remains consistent in supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country.
