Head of PFG with Benelux Meets with Ambassador of Netherlands

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Benelux Aleksandar Mirkovic spoke today in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Martijn Elgersma about the possibilities for cooperation and improvement of relations between our two countries.

Aleksandar Mirkovic emphasised that Serbia stands firmly on its European path and its strategic commitment remains membership in the European Union, stressing that the Netherlands’ support and experiences would be of great importance for expediting its progress on that path.

He assessed that, although there is no agreement on the status of Kosovo-Metohija, there are many other topics and areas of mutual interest that would bring our two countries closer together, pointing to the potential for concretising cooperation between Serbian and Dutch parliamentarians.

Ambassador Martijn Elgersma said that the Netherlands supports the membership of Serbia and the entire Western Balkans in the EU, noting that the stability of this region is of utmost importance for the stability of the entire Europe. In addition to cooperation in the field of European integration, the Dutch Ambassador noted that there are many other important areas, such as global security challenges, cybersecurity and agriculture, where cooperation could be achieved, to mutual benefit.

The officials also agreed that connecting the two economies would prove particularly important, as many Dutch companies are successfully operating in Serbia, and there is an increasing number of companies from Serbia operating in the Netherlands.

Mirkovic also pointed out the importance of the specialized exhibition "EXPO 2027 BELGRADE", and invited the Netherlands to participate in this important event.
