Head of PFG with Azerbaijan Meets with Azerbaijani Ambassador

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan Dusan Maric and PFG member Dijana Radovic, met today at the National Assembly with the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia Kamil Khasiyev.

Dusan Maric said in the days when we mark the anniversary of the victory over fascism, it should be emphasised that the peoples of Serbia and Azerbaijan made a heroic contribution to the victory in World War II. He pointed out that members of the Red Army from Azerbaijan participated in the liberation of Serbia and Belgrade, as well as in the defence of the edifice of the House of the National Assembly.

Maric thanked Azerbaijan for the sincere and friendly support it provides in international organisations and forums in defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. He pointed out that the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija are suffering constant pressure and intimidation, aimed at forcing them to emigrate from the territory.

The Head of the PFG with Azerbaijan was also grateful for the support in preserving Serbia's energy stability.

Ambassador Khasiyev stressed that Azerbaijan will continue to support Serbia in protecting its territorial integrity and sovereignty, as this represents a fundamental principle of international law.

He pointed out that Serbia is the only country on the European continent with which Azerbaijan has reached the level of strategic partnership, indicating that the good relations between the two countries are also based on the good relations between the two presidents, Vucic and Aliyev.

The officials agreed that cooperation between parliamentarians is of exceptional importance as they are directly elected representatives of the two peoples, also opining that there is room to intensify interparliamentary contacts, primarily through an exchange of visits between delegations of parliamentary friendship groups.
