Gojkovic and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho Thomas Motsoahae Thabane, currently in official visit to Serbia.

Gojkovic praised the traditionally good and friendly relations between the two countries, with no outstanding issues, and the mutual desire to advance cooperation, something Serbia is deeply committed to – advancing its relationship with traditional friends such as the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The Speaker said that the two countries’ relations date back to 1972, period when the Kingdom of Lesotho gained its independence, something Serbia is proud of, as well as the cooperation in the Non-Aligned Movement which had its first, founding summit here, at the National Assembly House.

Gojkovic thanked the Kingdom of Lesotho for understanding and supporting Serbia on the Kosovo-Metohija issue, one of the most important issues for our country.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho Thomas Motsoahae Thabane said that the Kingdom of Lesotho remains firm in its support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and was grateful for the good relations between the two countries, which his country is eager to deepen and strengthen across the board.

Gojkovic said that the Serbian Assembly is prepared to develop parliamentary cooperation and to that end set up a parliamentary friendship group with the Kingdom of Lesotho. The Serbian Assembly has a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Pan-African Parliament which offers many prospects for the development of parliamentary cooperation. Gojkovic thanked the parliamentary delegation of the Kingdom of Lesotho for participating in the recent 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, attended by over 2000 parliamentarians from 150 countries, recalling the importance of the Belgrade Declaration for the strengthening international law.
