Gojkovic and Hernandez Sign an Interparliamentary Cooperation Agreement

Today, in the course of her visit to Cuba, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic met with the President of the National Assembly of People's Power Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez and signed an agreement to strengthen the two countries' parliamentary cooperation.

By signing the agreement, Gojkovic and Hernandez confirmed the interest to strengthen cooperation, considering the parliaments’ growing global importance and the wish to intensify relations by encouraging cooperation between the working bodies, friendship groups and an exchange of experiences in the legislative domain, all based on the two countries’ historical ties.

Gojkovic stressed that Serbia appreciates Cuba’s support of its territorial integrity. The National Assembly Speaker also added that Serbia supports the revocation of the economic, trade and financial blocks by the US and welcomes a normalisation of the two countries' relations.

During the meeting, the two officials confirmed that there is ample room to improve economic cooperation, especially in agriculture, medicine and pharmacy, biotechnology and genetic engineering.
Gojkovic stressed that she supports the concretisation of projects in healthcare and pharmacy and a prompt registration of vaccines and medicines from Cuba.

The National Assembly Speaker is accompanied in her visit to Cuba, organised at the invitation of President Hernandez, by the Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba Ljubisa Stojmirovic. Gojkovic also had a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and she also visited the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples.
