Gojkovic and Chairman of Romanian Parliament's European Affairs Committee

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Chairman of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies' Committee on European Affairs Victor Ponta, as part of his visiting Serbia and attending the reception in honour of Aleksandar Vucic assuming the office of President of Serbia.

Gojkovic and Ponta discussed improving interparliamentary cooperation, regional stability and Serbia's euro-integration process. The National Assembly Speaker thanked Romania for its support of Serbia's efforts to join the EU stressing that the recently opened new negotiation chapters send an important message not just to the Serbian citizens, but to the whole region.

The Chairman of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies' Committee on European Affairs said that Romania would continue to support Serbia's euro-integration, especially by sharing its experience, adding that Serbia should view Romania's presidency of the European Council in 2019 as an opportunity to make progress in the process despite the challenges rocking the EU. He opined that Serbia has proved to be a stable, serious and reliable partner and that its Euro-integration is not only in the country's own interest, but also in the interest of Romania as its neighbour, as well as the region and the entire European Union.
