Gojkovic Meets with PACE President
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt, visiting Serbia at the Speaker’s invitation.
Gojkovic and Agramunt spoke about the continuation of the excellent cooperation between the National Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the reform processes in Serbia and the challenges facing Europe - terrorism and migrations.
Gojkovic said that Serbia has made considerable progress which, she hopes, will be recognised by the PACE rapporteurs’ report and that, by the end of the year, Serbia will move from the monitoring to the post-monitoring phase.
The National Assembly Speaker thanked the CoE Parliamentary Assembly for its objective stance of status neutrality concerning the participation of Pristina’s delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which means that their representatives can attend in the capacity of observer, but cannot participate in the debates and the adoption of resolutions.
PACE president Pedro Agramunt said that the Council of Europe considers its relations with national parliaments in high regard and that it enjoys excellent cooperation with Serbia and the National Assembly delegation which has an active role in the Council of Europe.
“The Council of Europe and Serbia cooperate on a great many issues, especially as regards the conduct of key reforms in Serbia. Surely together, we can achieve even speedier progress and the Council of Europe stands at Serbia’s disposal”, said Agramunt.
Gojkovic and Agramunt agreed on the importance of Serbia’s participation in the #NoHateNoFear initiative about the crucial issue for all of Europe – fight against terrorism.
Agramunt will address the MPs at a special sitting of the National Assembly at 3.30pm.
