Gojkovic Meets with IPU President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Gabriela Cuevas Barron, under the auspices of the 140th IPU Assembly in Doha.


Gojkovic and Cuevas Barron talked about the continuation of the successful cooperation between the National Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union and current issues in the context of Belgrade’s hosting of the coming Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly on 13 - 17 October.

Gojkovic said that Serbia and the National Assembly are very committed to the organization of the 141st IPU assembly in October in Belgrade, which is the country’s priority this year, adding her assurances that Serbia and Belgrade would prove to be good hosts.

Gojkovic said that having the privilege to host the IPU annual session in Belgrade is a big honour for the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the state, stressing that it is the result of the Serbian delegation’s active participation in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the last few years.

Gojkovic said that the Doha assembly is an excellent opportunity to promote Serbia as the host of the coming IPU assembly, adding that Belgrade expects to be visited by a great many parliamentary delegations from around the world.

Gojkovic said that the Serbia Assembly would continue championing the causes promoted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and cooperation with the organization and its member states.

Belgrade will have the honour to host an IPU session after 56 years, in the year marking the 130th anniversary of this, the oldest international parliamentary organization and Serbia’s booth at the current assembly in Doha offers an audio-visual presentation of the country’s potentials.
