GOPAC Serbia Promotes Regional Cooperation between Parliamentarians in Fight against Corruption

A delegation of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Serbia National Branch, comprising MP Dubravka Filipovski and National Assembly Assistant Secretary General and Legislative Sector Chief Mirjana Radakovic, paid a two-day visit to Sarajevo at the invitation of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting aimed to spread awareness on the role and importance of the Parliament and parliamentarians in the fights against corruption, present good practice and experiences in the organisation and work of the GOPAC Serbia National Branch, as well as promote the initiative to set up a GOPAC regional branch.

MP Dubravka Filipovski said that the parliaments should take on the leading role in the fight against corruption and urged the colleagues from the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina to set up a GOPAC national branch so that they could join forces and set up a regional branch of the global organisation.

Among the notable results of the GOPAC Serbia National Branch, Dubravka Filipovski mentioned the establishment of the Working Group for the Introduction and Development of the Public Finance Supervision Portal within the National Assembly’s Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending. The Portal is supposed to allow access to information on public expenses in real time so as to boost efficient parliamentary oversight over public spending, said Filipovski.

National Assembly Assistant Secretary General and Legislative Sector Chief Mirjana Radakovic presented to the attending parliamentarians and guests from the GOPAC international secretariat, the role and importance of the assistance the National Assembly Support Service provides to the GOPAC Serbia National Branch.

UNDP Serbia Portfolio Manager for Parliamentary Oversight Biljana Ledenican also addressed the parliamentarians on the behalf of UNDP Project “Strengthening Oversight Role and Transparency of National Assembly” which supports the work of the GOPAC Serbia National Branch. She spoke of the UNDP’s dedication to continuous support of the GOPAC Branch and work on connecting the Branch with independent state bodies and civil society organisations.
