The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee met today with a delegation of the Public Services and Transportation Committee of the Parliament of Jordan, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.
Committee Chairperson and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus said that the meeting of the Serbian and Jordanian parliamentary delegations is a long awaited opportunity to exchange views on important topics that reflect the geopolitical situation in the region, as well as on the international scene. She said that as an EU candidate, Serbia on its European path strives to harmonize its legislation and institutional framework with the EU member states, but it is also in such a geopolitical position that it is the east is to the west, and the west is to the east. Ragus added that Serbia and Jordan have traditionally had good bilateral relations, and that the Serbian side is interested in further developing them in the same direction.
The head of the Jordanian delegation, Dr. Ayman Odeh Mohammad Al-Badadwa, stressed that he was proud of the bilateral relations between the two countries, which should be improved, in particular through parliamentary cooperation and cooperation at the international level, respecting international law. He stated that the Jordanian delegation believes that parliamentary cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy can enhance dialogue and expand it to all topics of mutual interest between the two countries.
The delegations exchanged views on topics such as the development of rail and road transportation, technological development and innovation, infrastructure development, the development of modern technologies, digitalisation, the development of artificial intelligence, and more.
The delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee, which included, in addition to Marina Ragus, Committee members Aleksandar Mirkovic and Jovan Palalic, introduced their Jordanian colleagues to the way in which Serbia has achieved its current overall growth and development, especially in the field of transportation and infrastructure, thanks to the vision of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Ragus introduced the Jordanian delegation to the cooperation that Serbia has with the People's Republic of China, as well as to various projects that are being implemented in cooperation with European and Chinese partners, as well as to the basic economic achievements of our country, such as a positive investment rating, economic growth, public debt that is below 50% GDP, but also a free trade agreement with the People's Republic of China, and more.
"In a geopolitical sense, we want the best possible relations with everyone, our goal is EU membership, as well as cultivating friendship with the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation, because we believe in a world of equals. It is not easy to be sovereign and neutral, but because of our heritage, we want to cultivate our military neutrality and strengthen relations with UN member states," said Ragus.
The Serbian delegation informed the Jordanian MPs in detail about the situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, who are being denied all their rights, the causes of the blockade of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as the expectation that the Brussels Agreement will be fully implemented and the Community of Serb Municipalities will be formed, and requested the Jordanian side's support for our people in Kosovo-Metohija.
