Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation in Two-Day Visit to Romanian Parliament

A delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia comprising: Aleksandra Djurovic, Committee Chairperson, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic, Committee Deputy Chairperson, and Committee members Dr Aleksandra Tomic and Dr Ninoslav Stojadinovic, is currently in a two-day visit to the Romanian Parliament at the invitation of the Romanian Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

Yesterday, the delegation met with the members of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, parliamentary friendship group with Serbia, Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives and the Vice-President of the Senate Cristian Dumitresku.
The officials underlined the importance of the excellent relations between the two countries and overall parliamentary cooperation, especially as regards Serbia’s European integration. The Romanian hosts stressed that they support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and its European path.
Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic said that Serbia considers good bilateral relations with Romania very important and is ready to cultivate good-neighbourly relations and address all issues in a friendly dialogue. She informed the Romanian hosts that the National Assembly had recently passed three laws confirming agreements between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Romania on the opening of international border crossings, opining that the three new border crossings would facilitate the movements of the two countries’ citizens and speed up the development of their economic relations. She hopes that Romania will continue to assist Serbia’s European integration in a mutually beneficial way that would yield good results. “It is up to us to accept best practices through the exchange of views with parliamentarians of EU member states and try to tackle all possible problems that might arise in the European integration process”, Djurovic concluded.
The officials also discussed international human and minority rights standards. Today, the delegation will be meeting with the members of the Committee on European Affairs of the Senate and the House of Representatives and Romanian Foreign Ministry state secretary.
