Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic stressed that Serbia and France enjoy traditionally good relations. Djurovic added that the pace of parliamentary cooperation is very good and that the National Assembly has had quite a large Parliamentary Friendship Group with France since the previous legislature. The Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson also deemed that Serbia and France enjoy a high level of cooperation and mutual support in international organisations.

Speaking of Serbia’s progress in the European integration process, the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson thanked France for its enormous support in it. Djurovic stressed that the National Assembly has reached a consensus as regards European integration adding that it had also passed a Resolution on the Role of the National Assembly and Principles in the Negotiations on the Accession of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union in December 2013, via which the parliament and its relevant committees were included into the membership talks. In the context of European integration, Djurovic also underlined the importance of regional cooperation among the Western Balkan states saying that Serbia was taking active part in all regional initiatives.

The Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Elisabeth Guigou commended the progress Serbia has achieved in the European integration process adding that the National Assembly’s role in it is not only to pass reform laws, but to monitor their implementation and maintain a dialogue with the citizens and civil society.

The officials also exchanged views and experiences on the representation of women in the two parliaments and the importance of the duties they perform.

The meeting with the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly was also attended by Committee Deputy Chairperson Dr Dijana Vukomanovic and Committee member Dr Aleksandra Tomic, as well as the French Ambassador to Serbia Christine Moro.
