Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Meets Vietnamese Foreign Minister

Today, at the National Assembly House, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic received Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem.



Today, at the National Assembly House, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic received Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem.

The officials agreed that Serbia and Vietnam share a traditional friendship and excellent political relations, and that there are adequate conditions to expand the cooperation between the two countries. They estimated that the economic cooperation is modest and lower that the two countries’ economic potential could allow.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem briefed his host on the economic reforms in his country which had in the past years resulted in an exceptional economic growth, stressing that they are grounded in market economy and social development. Vietnam is interested in strengthening economic cooperation with Serbia and signing an economic and trade cooperation agreement between the two countries. It is necessary to specify priority spheres of cooperation and stimulate joint investment and market venture cooperation between the two countries’ companies, said the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister.

Minister Pham Gia Khiem stated that Vietnam supports Serbia’s efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty and UNSC Resolution 1244 which guarantees it. It also supports the talks between Belgrade and Pristina certain that they would contribute to the stability and cooperation in this part of the Balkans.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Dragoljub Micunovic emphasised the importance of intensifying parliamentary cooperation and opined that creation of parliamentary friendship groups in the two countries’ parliaments would help establish even stronger cooperation and relations.

The officials believe that more frequent contacts and high level visits, as well as opening embassies, would help strengthen and further the overall cooperation between Serbia and Vietnam.
