First inter-parliamentary meeting between the European Parliament and the Serbian National Assembly

A National Assembly delegation left for Brussels today, where it is to meet a delegation of the European Parliament for relations with South-Eastern European countries on 21 and 22 November.



A National Assembly delegation left for Brussels today, where it is to meet a delegation of the European Parliament for relations with South-Eastern European countries on 21 and 22 November. This is to be the first inter-parliamentary meeting between the European Parliament and the Serbian Assembly, and is to focus on an exchange of opinions on the current political situation in Serbia, its perspectives in the stabilisation and accession process, and the results of the referendum on the new Constitution.

In addition, the meeting is to touch on implementing rule of law in Serbia, as well as on several other issues relating to the judiciary and internal affairs, including co-operation with the Hague Tribunal. Members of the two delegations are also to exchange views on Kosovo and the perspectives of successfully concluding negotiations on its final status, as well as the economic situation in Serbia.

The Serbian delegation is made up of the chairperson of the European Integrations Committee, Suzana Grubjesic, the chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Gordana Comic, deputies Vuko Antonijevic, Vojkan Tomic, and Zeljko Ivanji. The head of the European Integration Office, Tanja Miscevic, will attend on behalf of the Serbian Government.
The European Parliament’s delegation is to be headed by Doris Pack.
A joint statement by the heads of the delegations is to be adopted at the end of the first inter-parliamentary meeting.
