First Constituting Meeting of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee

The first constituting meeting of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee was held on 15 November 2013 at the National Assembly House.


Parliamentary Committee Co-Chairs, MP Ivan Andric and MEP Eduard Kukan, chaired the constituting meeting, and the participants were greeted by National Assembly Speaker Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic and First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

In the working part of the meeting the members of the Parliamentary Committee adopted the Agenda Proposal and the Proposal of the Rules of Procedure. They exchanged opinions and views on the relations between the European Union and Serbia with Michael Davenport, Head of the European Union delegation to Serbia, addressing the participants on the behalf of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the European Commission. On the behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia the assembly was addressed by Nikola Selakovic, Minister of Justice and Public Administration. Natasa Vuckovic, European Integration Committee Chairperson, spoke on the behalf of the National Assembly delegation to the Parliamentary Committee, while Schöpflin György spoke on the behalf of the European Parliament.
The meeting focused on economic development, promoting the rule of law: judiciary reform and combating corruption and organised crime, dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and regional cooperation and the region’s progress toward European Union membership. Parliamentary Committee Vice-Chairperson Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Jadranka Joksimovic, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic and Suzana Grubjesic, Lajos Bokros, Kinga Gal, Jelko Kacin, and Andrej Plenkovic on the behalf of the European parliament, spoke on the issues.

At the end of the meeting, the members of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee adopted a joint Declaration and Recommendations and, as stipulated in article 7 of the Parliamentary Committee Rules of Procedure and article 125 of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, sent them to the Stabilisation and Association Council and the institutions of Serbia and the European Union.
