The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and Speaker of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Sandor Egeresi sent invitations to the parliament speakers of 14 states and 17 regions of the Danube region to take part at the First Conference of Parliament Speakers of Danube Region States and Regions to be held on 5 and 6 April 2011 in Novi Sad, at the APV Assembly.

The topic of the conference is EU’s Danube Strategy and establishment of the Danube region – the position of states and regions. The Conference aims to secure strong support for the Danube Strategy from the parliaments of the states and regions, which should contribute to the strengthening of the common supervisory function over the implementation of the Danube Strategy, as well as better coordination and improvement of cooperation in specific areas: economy, science, technology, environmental protection, culture, youth meetings and exchange.

Djukic-Dejanovic and Egeresi agreed on the importance of the Conference intended to strengthen the position of parliaments within the Danube Strategy, as well as institutionalise annual meetings of parliamentary delegations of the states and regions aimed at exchanging opinions and promoting the implementation of the Strategy.

During her first official visit to the European Parliament in Brussels tomorrow, the NARS Speaker will talk to the EP President J. Buzek and personally invite him to lend a special impulse to the realisation of the Conference’s goals by his presence.
