Fifth Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the sitting, held on 15 March 2021, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee reviewed the Bill on Climate Change, submitted by the Government, in principle.

The Bill was presented by State Secretary at the Ministry of Environmental Protection Jelena Tanaskovic who said that goal of this Bill was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and adapt to changed climatic conditions by adopting and implementing public policy documents. Also, another of the Bill’s goals is to establish a system to reduce GHG emissions in a cost-effective manner, thus contributing to reaching emission levels needed to avoid dangerous global climate change and adverse impacts of climate change. In order to achieve the goals of this Bill, it is necessary to adopt a low-carbon development strategy, an action plan for the implementation of the strategy and a program of adaptation to changed climate conditions.

Following the presentation, the Committee members decided to propose that the National Assembly accept the Bill, in principle.
