Fifth Session of Russia-Serbia Parliamentary Commission in Moscow
The Fifth Session of the Joint Cooperation Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was held in Moscow today.
In the course of the session the members of the two parliaments discussed the parliamentary support and contribution to the realization of the Russia-Serbia talks concerning key and prospective areas of bilateral cooperation, among other things energy production, information and communication technologies and digital economy. The Commission considered the coordination of State Duma – National Assembly work on strengthening international and regional security within bilateral and multilateral formats. The Commission members also discussed the joint efforts to protect historic memory and oppose heroization of Nazism in the context of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
On behalf of the Serbian National Assembly the Commission’s Fifth Session was attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Zarko Obradovic, Head of the PFG with Russia and the national Assembly’s standing delegation to CSTO PA Milovan Drecun, and MPs Sandra Bozic, Dubravka Filipovski and Dragomir Karic.
One of the key topics of the session was the initiative to establish an Institute of Historical Memory. Deputy co-chairman Djordje Milicevic said that the proposal was of great interest for Serbia and the Serbian people.
“We are witnesses of attempts of historical revision and attempts to minimize the sacrifices of the Serbian and Russian people”, said Milicevic. He stressed that it is our job to preserve our common heritage adding that he would propose to the Serbian Government that science should join the efforts to preserve the real truth about the creation of free Europe.
Summing up the Commission’s work, Serbian Assembly Deputy Speaker Djordje Milicevic said that the parliaments play an important role in supporting and promoting the results of bilateral cooperation and that all the topics considered at the session are of direct interest for both countries.
Milicevic said that the huge capacities for energy cooperation and peaceful nuclear energy use were emphasized, as well as the importance of the ratification of the signed agreements, harmonization and signing of new documents on cooperation in the fields of innovation and technological development, and of project TurkStream.
The National Assembly Deputy Speaker highlighted the enormous importance of coordinating the work of the Russian State Duma and Serbian National Assembly on strengthening international and regional security within bilateral and multilateral formats, stressing how important it is to continue to advance the parliamentary relations in international parliamentary institutions.
As regards the joint efforts to protect historic memory and oppose heroization of Nazism, it was concluded that preserving the anti-fascist traditions and opposing the attempts to distort the history of the war and its results are one of the most important tasks in which the two countries’ need to continue to work together.
“The most important issues of common interest that we considered today and agreements reached also contribute to stronger ties and coordination of the two parliaments’ efforts” said Milicevic stressing that the parliaments should continue to advance cooperation in the interest of furthering the traditionally close and friendly relations between the two countries and nations.
On behalf of the State Duma the session of the Joint Commission was attended by the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship Sergey Zhigarev, Chairman of the Committee on Energy Pavel Zavalny, Chairman of the Committee on Defence Vladimir Shamanov, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Federal Structure and Local Government Valentina Tereshkova, Chairperson of the Committee on Culture Elena Yampolskaya, First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Culture Elena Drapenko, member of the Committee on Energy Natalia Nazarova, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Duma Organization and Regulation Valeriy Ivanov and member of the Committee on Defence, coordinator of the Russian part of the Commission Pavel Dorokhin.
The Joint Cooperation Commission of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was established under the auspices of the two parliaments’ Cooperation Agreement in December 2015.
