The Chairman of the European Integrations Committee Laslo Varga and the deputy of the European Parliament Victor Bostinaru talked today at the National Assembly House about Serbia’s European future and the laws necessary for Serbia’s approach to the European Union.

The Chairman of the European Integrations Committee Laslo Varga and the deputy of the European Parliament Victor Bostinaru talked today at the National Assembly House about Serbia’s European future and the laws necessary for Serbia’s approach to the European Union.

Varga briefed the guest on the difficulties the Serbian Assembly faces in passing these laws, expressing his hope that all the laws necessary for putting Serbia onto the Schengen “white list”, as well as the anti-corruption laws, will soon be adopted. He also expressed his expectation that the 49 laws necessary for gaining the candidate status of EU membership will also be passed in the estimated term.

Varga informed the EP deputy that, starting October 13, the Committee, in cooperation with the Council of Europe and “European movement”, will organise a series of roundtables promoting EU values in six Serbian cities.

Victor Bostinaru, member of the EP Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South-East Europe and representative of the group of socialist parties in the EP, reiterated that the European Union was impressed with the outcome of the Serbian parliamentary election and the ruling majority’s European orientation. According to him, EU should also change its attitude concerning Serbia’s obligations, focusing on the partnership necessary from both EU and Serbia.

EU will not be complete without the countries of the region as its members, Bostinaru stated, adding that after his visit to Belgrade he will prepare a report and forward it to the EP Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South-East Europe, EP Foreign Policy Committee and the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.
