European Integration Committee Members Talk to Italian Senate Delegation
European Integration Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic and the Committee members met today at the National Assembly House with a delegation of the Italian Senate headed by the Chairman of the Committee on EU Policies, Senator Vannino Chiti.
Senator Vannino Chiti said that Italy firmly believes Serbia should become a member of the European Union, adding that all the political powers are united in that belief, evidenced in the adoption of the Resolution on the opening of negotiation chapters with Serbia. Chiti opined that the European Union should admit the Western Balkan countries as soon as possible, where, he added, Serbia plays the central role in the maintenance of stability. He stressed that Italy would continue to support Serbia in its progress to the European Union.
Senator Chiti said that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Italy are very good, emphasising the importance of promoting interparliamentary, cultural, economic and educational cooperation.
European Integration Committee members Dusica Stojkovic and Dr Aleksandra Tomic agreed that Italy is an exceptionally important foreign trade partner to Serbia and thanked the country for its support of Serbia’s EU accession efforts.
The meeting was also attended by European Integration Committee members Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Bojan Kostres, Laszlo Varga, Dusica Stojkovic, Dr Ivan Bauer, Biljana Pantic Pilja and Irena Aleksic.
