European Integration Committee Delegation Visits Cypriot House of Representatives

A delegation of the European Integration Committee visited of Cypress, 25-27 September 2017, at the invitation of the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs of the House of Representatives of the Republic Cyprus, Mr Yiorgos Lillikas.


The delegation of comprised Committee Chairman Nenad Canak, Committee Deputy Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cyprus Biljana Pantic Pilja.

In the course of the two-day visit the delegation met with the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cypress, Chairman and members of the House Standing Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Minister of Defence - acting foreign minister, and local dignitaries of Nicosia and Famagusta.

The parliamentary officials agreed that Cyprus and Serbia enjoy traditionally friendly relations, well-developed political, economic and cultural cooperation and mutual support for their respective territorial integrity. They noted that there are some similarities in the problems Cyprus has in the north and Serbia in Kosovo-Metohija. The Cypriot officials expressed full support for Serbia’s EU accession and offered assistance in the pursuit of that goal. The two countries agreed that there is room to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest and emphasized the importance of interparliamentary cooperation.
