European Integration Committee Delegation Takes Part in COSAC Meeting

A delegation of the European Integration Committee took part in the meeting of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC), held as part of the parliamentary dimension of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU on 26 and 27 January in Warsaw, Poland. The delegation included MPs Prof. Dr Aleksandra Tomic and Akos Ujhelyi.

The conference was divided into two sessions. MP Akos Ujhelyi addressed the attendees at the first session, dedicated to the priorities of the Polish presidency of the European Union. He drew attention to the procedural possibilities for the opening of Cluster 3 and recalled that in December last year, all EU member states agreed to recognise Serbia as having fulfilled the conditions for the opening of this cluster. He said that work is also being done on Cluster 2, which is the main cluster of the single market and that all four freedoms and policies related to them are included. As he said, work is also being done on Cluster 5 - agriculture and regional policy. At the end of his presentation, Akos Ujhelyi added that Serbia has harmonised its visa regime with that of the European Union and called for Poland to support the policy of further EU enlargement.

In the second session, dedicated to how the EU budget can effectively respond to the challenges posed by climate change, the attendees were addressed by MP Prof. Dr Aleksandra Tomic. Aleksandra Tomic pointed out the critical aspect of climate change when defining the EU budget. She noted that the budget funds for this purpose have been significantly increased compared to the previous budget period and that the European Commission has adopted concrete measures that represent effective mechanisms that enable the rapid neutralisation of the consequences of major natural disasters.

Aleksandra Tomic informed the attendees that Serbia has adopted a Reform Agenda covering 4 areas, which envisages 98 measures with an estimated budget of 1.6 million euros, which will be used for this purpose until 2027, and which includes measures that help us to effectively respond to the challenges of climate change. She added that regional cooperation is useful and vital to this end in order to adapt national policies that enable participation in 11 different EU programmes.
