European Integration Committee Chairperson Talks to European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia
The Chairperson of the European Integration Committee, Natasa Vuckovic, met today, at the National Assembly House, with the European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia, Jelko Kacin.
Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic informed Mr Kacin that a draft resolution is being prepared to define the National Assembly’s role in the EU talks. She also stressed the importance of dialogue between the National Assembly and the Government in the process, as well as the need for dialogue between the ruling majority and the opposition. The role and capacities of the European Integration Committee need to be bolstered and the other assembly committees should take part and follow the negotiations process, added Vuckovic.
Emphasising the important role the parliament plays in the European integration process, European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin said that the role of the National Assembly’s future European affairs committee, after Serbia’s EU accession, needs to be defined on time, adding that the national legislation needs to be harmonised even before some of the chapters of the talks are opened.
Mr Kacin said that the European Commission’s Progress Report on Serbia would be favourable, adding that the European Parliament’s Report on Serbia is expected in January or February of 2014.
