Environmental Protection Committee Chairman’s First Meeting with Media Representatives
Today, at the National Assembly House, the Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee Dr Branislav Blazic organised his first meeting with media representatives dealing with environmental issues.
The meeting focused on options for establishing closer cooperation between the Committee and media representatives so as to raise awareness on the significance of environmental conservation and keep the public duly informed on all the problems in the area.
Addressing the media representatives the Committee Chairman, the initiator of the meeting, stressed that all social factors should cooperate to resolve the serious threats to the environment in Serbia and meet EU standards in the sphere.
The media representatives stated that the chief problems in the sphere are lacking inspection control, mismanaged of the waste recycling system and dissatisfactory cooperation between the media and local self-government units.
The participants of the meeting agreed that environmental protection needs better legislation and pointed out the need to organise public hearings before the laws are adopted by the National Assembly.
