EU Twinning Project Closing Conference

EU Twinning project “Strengthening the capacities of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in the European integration process” lasted 22 months and involved more than 100 experts from 10 countries.

At the final event at the National Assembly House, the Serbian and Greek parliament speakers, projects leaders and experts spoke about the effects and results achieved during the cooperation between the National Assembly and the Hellenic Parliament.

In the opening speech, National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic thanked the European Union member states and institutions on the excellent cooperation and assistance in the legislative harmonisation process and Serbia’s EU accession talks.

The Speaker said that the appropriate and systematic use of EU funds via the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) in the current stage and after the EU accession, shows that Serbia is ready to make independent decisions about its priorities and best plot its immediate future.

Hellenic Parliament Speaker Evangelos Meimarakis said he was happy to be part of the completion of one of the most important EU projects in Serbia. He congratulated Serbia’s determination to remain on the road to Europe, saying that Greece will continue to give unconditional support to Serbia on its road to the European family.

At the closing conference, National Assembly and Hellenic Parliament secretaries general Jana Ljubicic and Athanasios Papaionnou, Deputy Head of the EU delegation to Serbia Oskar Benedikt and Twinning project experts spoke about the results and cooperation achieved via the Twinning project.
