The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic spoke today, as part of his official visit to Budapest, with representatives of the Self-Government of Serbs in Hungary.
As the representatives of the Self-Government emphasised, their position has reached a historical maximum in previous years. They said that Hungary is an example of a country where minorities enjoy a high degree of rights and freedoms. "The Hungarian government primarily supports nationalities and we, Serbs in Hungary, have been living in a golden age for the past ten years. We are glad that the governments of the Republic of Serbia and Hungary are fostering good relations, which for us, as well as for Hungarians in Serbia, only results in concrete benefits", said the representatives of the Self-Government at the meeting.
They informed the Serbian Assembly Speaker about the activities they undertake to preserve the script, culture, tradition and national identity, pointing out the importance of contacts and coordination with the mother country for further improving their position in those segments where there is still room for it. Dr Orlic said that the Self-Government of the Serbs in Hungary can count on Serbia’s help in all matters of interest, and the representatives of the Self-Government confirmed that they definitely have the help and support of the Republic of Serbia as never before.
Vera Pejic Sutor, President of the Self-Government of the Serbs in Hungary, Igor Dusan Rus, Vice-President of the Self-Government, Ljubomir Aleksov, spokesman for the Serbian nationality in the Hungarian Parliament, Borislav Rus, President of the Serbian Self-Government in Budapest, as well as Petar Lastic, Vice-President of the Serbian Self-Government in Budapest took part in the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
