Dr Orlic Meets with Indonesian Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with Indonesian Ambassador Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha to discuss strengthening the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries marking their 70th anniversary next year.

Dr Orlic thanked Indonesia on its firm, principled position regarding Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, that is its non-recognition of so-called “Kosovo. “Indonesia and Serbia are consistently on the side of public international law and respecting the universal principles the UN Charter is grounded in. It is our consistent position that, by respecting the integrity of each UN member state, equally, as we do our own, we protect international order. These are the words Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic repeats as our state’s position, everywhere and on every occasion”, said Speaker Orlic.

He informed the Ambassador or the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija. “The Serbian people is exposed to brutal terror by Albin Kurti - daily attacks on human lives and property, accompanied by flagrant violations of human rights unimaginable anywhere else in the world”, said Dr Orlic adding: “In these, extremely difficult circumstances we remain consistently dedicated to the preservation of peace, dialogue as the only correct way to come to a solution and ensure the further development of our country”.

The Ambassador said he was most pleased with the decades-long friendship and mutual respect and support on the most important issues, especially the clear commitment to the principles of public international law. He also congratulated Serbia on being selected the host of EXPO 2027, highlighting the importance of the prestigious event for our country.

In the course of the meeting the officials assessed that there is significant potential for the development of close cooperation in great many areas and expressed interest in promoting economic cooperation, expressing mutual pleasure for the current year’s record volume of trade. They also confirmed their readiness to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and welcomed the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and its recent ratification in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
