Deputy Speaker Sandra Bozic Takes Part in Parliamentary Event at Sustainable Development Goals Summit

Taking part in the Sustainable Development Goals Summit which opened the week of high-level meetings of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York, 18 to 22 September, is an opportunity for all countries to commit themselves even more strongly to act toward sustainable development, at the highest political level of heads of state and government.

After the UN high-level meeting in 2019 on universal health care coverage, the IPU resolution establishes a road map for parliaments to support the implementation of Goal 3 - good health and well-being.

Addressing the participants of the meeting, IPU President Duarte Pacheco emphasised the importance of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 - good health and well-being, in order to define the parliaments’ next steps to support the outcomes of the Sustainable Development Goals Summit and future high-level meetings on health.

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is taking part in the joint efforts of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, representatives of the non-governmental sector and private companies, in order to achieve the goals set in the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Within its constitutional and legal powers, which include legislative and supervisory functions, the National Assembly will continue to act responsibly while joining the comprehensive efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals. This work is institutionalised through the formation of an Inter-Ministerial Working Group consisting of representatives of 26 institutions, and the National Assembly, as the highest representative body in the Republic of Serbia, actively contributes primarily through the Health and Family Committee, which considers bills and by proposing amendments adds to the quality of the legislation in the field of health and healthcare.
